For the second time this Tournament season, Mike Hughs wins a Tournament where most guys seemed to struggle. Mike targeted bedding bass protected by Rayburn’s extremely heavy cover. He fished deep in the flooded brush and found enough fish locked on beds to weigh a total of 5 for 11.16 lbs on his way to leading the tournament after day one. On day two he followed his pattern in finding 2 more fish for a two day total of 15.15 lbs to capture the victory. He used a Lake Fork Creature Bait in watermelon w/ gold flake to catch all his fish. Mike received $342.00 for his 1st place finish.
After starting day 1 with only 2 fish for 5.33 lbs, Dan Phifer brought 3 more fish to the scales on day 2 to finish with a total of 13.19 lbs, earning him second place. Dan caught his fish while dragging a Lizard over the grass beds. His total was enough to lock up second place and earn him his 3rd consecutive top 5 finish. His 3 fish on Sunday included the days biggest bass of 3.17 lbs. His total take home was $399.00 ($244.00-2nd & $155.00 for big bass).
In third place, Mr. Coy Frazier weighed 7 fish for a total weight of 12.33 lbs. His fish were caught on a Pop-R in the morning before the sun was fully up. Once the sun was up he then switched to his traditional centipede on a Carolina Rig. The third place check Coy received was $146.00.
The fourth place finisher, Keith Green, weighed in a 4 fish total for 11.62 lbs. On day 1 Keith got the “Big Bite” in catching the biggest fish of the tournament & Saturday’s big bass with his 5.18 lb fatty. Keith’s fish were caught while flipping bushes & heavy cover with a Lake Fork Craw Tube in watermelon purple. He took home $107.00 for 4th place & $155.00 for his big bass ($262.00 total).
Yarik Malyuta claimed the fifth spot with 6 fish for 11.33 lbs. He caught his fish on a Zoom Trick Worm rigged wacky style in 4’ – 6’ of water. He received $78.00 for 5th prize.
The final money spot was paid to Robert Hargrove, who weighed in 10.76 lbs on 5 total fish over both days. He fished his usual Rig to catch all his fish. His pay out was $60.00. Despite his efforts, long time Century member, Jim Campbell was only able to finish in the 1st out of the money position with 8.78 lbs total weight on 4 fish. Jim was awarded a tackle pack for his Finish.
