Dowis Takes Blustery First Tourney Of 2006

Craig Dowis started off the 2006 season with considerable “friendly banter” amongst friends but became a bit worried when the skies opened up and the temperatures didn’t rise out of the low 40’s.  However, Craig didn’t let the weather hamper him as he went on to a 1st place finish weighing in at 13.37 pounds.  Tube baits were used to bring in the only 5 fish limit of tourney.  Craig takes home $375 for first.  He and his non-boater, Paul Pierce, take home $85 a piece for winning the heavy boat pot leaving Dowis with a total take-home of $460.  Not bad at all Craig!  Congrats to both of you!

Second place went to returning Century member Hameed Ghaffar.  Hameed ran the entire lake to seal his very respectable 8.72 pound/ 3 fish showing at weigh-in.  Hameed checked in a nice 3.73 pound fish for his largest of the three which he used Rattle Traps and Spinner Baits to bring in.  For his hard day’s running, Hameed takes home $268.  Congrats Hameed and welcome back!

Third place was captured by Marcus Fowler and his 6.87 pound hawg caught on a swim bait.  One fish was all Marcus needed to take home $160 for third place and an additional $170 for big bass totaling a $330 pay day!  Way to go Marcus, nice fish!

Fourth place belongs to Wally Hughey with 2 fish totaling 6.73 pounds.  His largest was a nice toad coming in at 4.64 pounds.   Wally used a red Rattletrap to catch his bag leaving him with $118 for his day’s work.  Congratulations Wally!

Fifth place belongs to last year’s Angler of the Year, Jon Harshbarger who weighed in 2 fish totaling 3.55 pounds.  Jon’s fish came within the final few minutes of the tournament (literally) on crank baits.  For his last minute comeback Jon earns $86, an adrenaline rush, and stays in early contention to repeat in the AOY competition.  What an impressive showing of tenacity!  Way to go Jon!

Sixth place was earned by “Joe-Joe” Joe Thompson with one fish weighing in at 3.21 pounds.  Joe’s fish was caught on a split shot rig and earned him and extra $64.  Congratulations Joe!

The first place out-of-the-money tackle pack went to my boater of the day and multi-time Angler of the Year, Robert Hargrove.  Robert’s fish came within the last two hours of the tournament and was caught on his patented “Chicken Rig”.  Way to go Robert!  It was a blast!
