Strong south winds and a rise of approximately two feet in the lake level made for some tough fishing at this years BASS Federation State Tournament April 5-7 at Toledo Bend. A 3rd place finish was pretty impressive Chuck and Carey each lost a day of fishing due to mechanical breakdown of their partnerís boats. Vidor Bass Club captured 1st with a total of 136.76 lbs. South Texas Bassmasters came in 2nd with 117.70 and Century Bass Club was 3rd with 113.14. Three members came close to making the State Team with Elvin Smith leading the way with 27.45 lbs. The final spot on the State Team was captured with 28.73 lbs. Robert Hargrove finished with 23.99 lbs. Paul Zukosky had 23.17 lbs. Tommy Yates had 19.32 lbs. Chary Gajdica had 16.45 lbs. and Chuck Middleton had 2.76 lbs. Carey also weighed in a fish on the 2nd day that missed the 2nd place big bass for that day by just .01 of a pound. Next years State Tournament will be held on Lake Amistad.
Great weather greeted 26 anglers at Lake ĎO the Pines at our 4th club tournament of the year. Jon Harsbarger bested the field with a winning limit at 11.18 lbs. and big bass at 4.00 lbs. He was followed closely by Brett Kilmerís 5 fish at 11.06 lbs. 3rd went to Elvin Smith with 4 fish at 7.27 lbs. Bill Kessler grabbed 4th with 3 fish at 6.20 lbs. I finished in 5th with 3 at 5.80 lbs. and Bill Johnson took 6th with 3 fish at 5.66 lbs. Itís great to see the large turnouts this year. Carey Gajdica is still leading the Angler of the Year race with Randy Kvapil and Ernie Jordan close behind.
When we start adding drops in the next couple of months
there should be a real dogfight for spots on the Top Six Team, so donít miss a
tournament. Remember to keep praying for rain Ė just not on tournament days.
Welcome aboard our two newest members Hameed Ghaffar and Bill Houghton.
