Kvapil Captures 2001 CENTURY Classic Championship

Randy Kvapil only caught one fish on Sunday during this year’s two day classic on Cedar Creek Lake.  However, this fish was enough to hold off Jon Harshbarger for the top prize of $525.00 and the prestige of capturing this years Classic.

Saturday and Sunday had virtually the same weather - lows in the 40’s and highs in the 70’s with brisk winds from the East during the day.

With constant conditions, you might think fishing conditions would be consistent - but for some of the tournament contestants, it was anything but that.   Randy caught a stringer of 14.60 on Saturday, anchored by a 3.56 which was just short of Saturday’s big bass of 3.59 which was split by Gary Martin and Walley Hughey.

Mike Adam and Paul Zukosky completed Saturday’s round with double-digit weights of 13.38 and 10.89 respectively.

Sunday was just the reversal of Saturday - Randy, Paul and Mike had trouble getting their fish to bite, but John Pierce solved the puzzle with his 11.65 sack.

John Harshbarger’s steady four bass per day strings of 8.20 and 7.63 were almost enough to overtake Randy.  John is always a formidable angler - especially in October and on Cedar Creek Lake!

Sunday turned out to be a tough day - only one five bass limit caught and except for a few anglers we all caught less bass.

How about Bill Kessler taking the sizable big bass pot that many of the anglers participated in.  The pot was for the biggest bass of the two day tournament.  Way to go Bill!

It has been a great year for Century Bass Club and I am looking forward to an even better 2002 tournament season.  If you can’t be at the banquet, I wish the best for you and your family this holiday season.
