Zukosky Climbs Back Into The Winnerís Circle

Tournament Log

Date: February 11, 2001
Cedar Creek Lake: Long time member and CENTURY legend Paul Zukosky captured top honors with 4 fish at 14.59 lbs., which included the dayís big bass at 6.70 lbs.  This is just one more victory in an already impressive resume for Paul, which includes the í94 individual State B.A.S.S. Title on Lake Amistad.
Conditions: Cloudy, cold and rainy most of the day with temperatures from the low to mid 40ís . Water was clear in the main lake to slightly stained in the back of the creeks. Water temperatures ranged 48 degrees to the low 50ís in most areas. There was lots of flooded shoreline grass due the lake finally getting back to full pool. The lake looks great and there should be a good spawn this year.
Results & Payout: 35 anglers, 53 keeper fish, 138.82 lbs., 2.62 lb. average. $1,476.62 payout.
1st place:

Paul Zukosky. 4 fish-14.59 lbs.  Primary pattern: Spinnerbaits in shoreline grass.

2nd place: Jon Harshbarger. 5 fish -12.59 lbs. Secondary pattern: Spinnerbaits in shoreline grass.
3rd place: Coy Frazier. 5 fish - 10.80 lbs.
4th place: Bill Kessler. 3 fish - 10.63 lbs.
5th place: John Pierce. 4 fish - 9.95 lbs.
6th place: Jason Achteberg. 4 fish - 8.74 lbs.
Big Bass: 6.70 lbs. Paul Zukosky. Spinnerbait.
Analysis:

It was obvious that even though we were fishing in some cold, miserable weather and despite water temperatures in the upper 40ís the fish have definitely started their move to the shallows. The fish I caught all came from the backs of protected pockets on a spinnerbait in approximately 2-4 fet of water. Some anglers also reported catching fish in the same areas on Texas rigged lizards. Later in the day I realized that I couldnít stay in one pocket for an extended period of time and keep catching fish. Each pocket seemed to only hold one fish that was willing to bite. That should change with some warmer water and the next full moon.

Federation Update:  Feb. 10th - CENTURY BASS CLUB members captured the top 4 places at the Northeast Region B.A.S.S. Federation tournament held on Cedar Creek Lake. 1st thru 4th place included: Bobby Cole with 16.50 lbs., Jon Harsbarger, David Porter, and Coy Frazier who also had the dayís big bass.
