Martin Creek Lake

Conditions:
Cold, cold, cold with temperatures ranging from 25 to 46 degrees. The water temperature was 50 degrees at the ramp at take off, which was a 13 degree drop from the previous weekend. As the day wore on we had fairly clear skys with 10-15 mph winds out of the north. Word has it that most of the fish were caught deep on Carolina Rigs. By the way, the grass is gone!

COY RULES!

Old Man winter decided to show up just in time for our first tournament of the year. As you will see by the standings the bite was real tough. In fact, I personally did not get a bite all day. But as usual someone always catches fish. This time Coy Frazer brought the only limit to the scales for a 5 fish, 10.50 stringer. He not only took 1st place, but also grabbed the combo weight honors even though he was fishing by himself. No one else weighed in more than two fish. 2nd place went to Bill Johnson with 2 fish at 3.92 lbs. 3rd place was captured by Cary Gajdica with 2 fish at 3.85 lbs. In 4th place was Randy Kvapil with 2 fish/3.65 lbs. and Rich Adams came in 5th with the big fish of the tournament at 3.44 lbs.

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate by the time the Ray Hubbard tournament gets here. If so this could be a really good tournament. Are you ready for some “Big Fish”?

It was good to see so many boaters at the first tournament. The number should only get larger and with a little work towards bringing in some non-boaters it looks like we could see a positive increase in the membership this year. It was also good to see Ernie Jordan back with us and still catching good fish (1 fish/3.02 lbs.).

Here is a little tip I learned from the our first tournament of the year. Don’t play the $2 slot machines in Shreveport. It only took me about 5 minutes to spend my next two entry fees and I was told I had a good time. Who would have thought?

I hope to see everyone on the lake and at the next meeting. If you have someone you would like to send a newsletter to, get in touch with me at 214-793-0171 so I can add them to the mailing list.
