KESSLER on top at Martin Creek

Long time Century member, Bill Kessler, topped a field of 31 anglers to take top honors at Century’s first tournament of 2004 held on January 25 at Martin Creek.  Bill utilized a “chicken rig” with a zoom watermelon trick worm in water 2 feet deep to bring in 4 fish for 9.10 lbs.  Bill collected $390 (pictured) for his persistence in a very tough tournament that saw not one 5-fish limit brought to the scales.   Although the water temperatures ranged form 75 at the discharge to 63 degrees at the intake, the storms and heavy rains the day before and then the bluebird sky on tournament day made for a tough first tournament for Century members.  Congratulations, Bill, on your 1st place finish.

D
anny Malone nailed down 2nd place as well as Big Bass honors in one cast on Sunday with a beautiful 7.38 lb toad (pictured).  Danny was throwing a Carolina rig with a Lake Fork Ring Fry in watermelon red in water 18 feet deep when his luck changed to the tune of $400 which included $155 for the day’s Big Bass.  Nice fish, Danny!

Third place went to new Century member, Weldon King, with 2 fish for 6.09 lbs.  Weldon’s fish came on a Hellbender crankbait and a red Texas-rigged worm in 9 feet of water for the $147 payday.  Weldon also collected $78 for his half of the heavy boat award.

Robert Hargrove (pictured), 2003 Century Angler of the Year, took 4th place honors with 2 fish for 5.45 lbs and pocketed $108.  Robert also added $78 to his wallet for his half of the heavy boat pot.  Vince Keasling claimed 5th place and $78 with 2 fish for 5.32 lbs and Jerry Dodd took 6th and $60 for his 2 bass @ 4.86 lbs.

New Century member, Mike Stewart, was the winner of the “First Place out of the Money” prize.  This month’s prize included tackle and gifts furnished by Tacklewarehouse.com, Culprit Worms, and N.A.P.A.

Danny Malone was also the winner of the Free Entry drawing.

Thirty-one Century members weighed in 35 bass @ 89.72 lbs for a 2.56 lb average.

Did you know that a few years back Century had a 100 member cutoff and a waiting list to join the club?  Let’s all help bring Century back to its elite status by recruiting new members.
