It was a scorcher on the water at Lake Ray Hubbard during the July Century Bass Club tournament.

Lake knowledge proves successful again for Randy Conover taking home 1st place. Randy caught 5 keeper bass weighing 15.69lbs, including a 5.46lb kicker to hold off the field of 28 fellow anglers. Randy caught his fish around rip rap with a shaky head worm and offshore with a c-rig. He will pad his wallet with $340 for this win.

This month John Harshbarger rolls on with his string of top 5 finishes with a 2nd place finish. John only brings 3 keepers to weigh-in but a 6.55lb bass anchors the scales for a total weight of 13.91lbs. This big bass was fooled by a Senko, and John also takes Big Bass Honors for the tournament. John’s other 2 keepers were caught around rip rap with a shaky head worm. Chad Hensley was a non-boater with John and helped secure the Heavy Boat Stringer with a total combined weight of 27.50lbs. Each will take home $67.50. John continues to payoff his new Ranger with a total combined paycheck worth $423.50 for 2nd place, Big Bass and Heavy Boat Stringer.

Chad Hensley tries out Century Bass Club this month as a guest. As a non-boater, Chad was randomly drawn to fish with John Harshbarger. He puts John to the test by bringing a 5 fish limit to the scales but falls a little short with 13.59lbs. Chad finishes with a very respectable 3rd place finish and pockets $128 for 3rd place and $67.50 for Heavy Boat Stringer. Chad’s fish were also caught on a shaky head worm around rip rap.

Dan Phifer continues to make a run after Harshbarger for the Angler of the Year title by finishing in 4th place. He caught 4 keepers weighing 4.96lbs. Dan’s fish were caught with a craw worm in submerged brush. $94 will go to Dan for his catch.

Mike Hughs finds 3 keepers weighing 9.07lbs to take home the final paycheck worth $68. This small payday will buy his newborn baby girl “Kayla” some diapers… Mike’s fish were caught on a c-rig and a jig in deeper water.

First place out of the money goes to Lane Arnold for 4 keepers with a total net weight of 8.97lbs. His fish were caught on SPRO frogs around matted grass and lily pads. Lane earns a free entry into the next Century Bass Club tournament.

Congratulations to all our winners! Everyone’s fish care has helped so please continue to do what it takes to keep your fish alive during these hot temperatures and long days.

Catch-up on your sleep. Our next tournament will be at Cypress Springs on a hot summer night. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting to signup for this exciting event. I hear that the big ones feed at night in the summer…
