Mark Calhoun Captures His First Century Title

Mark Calhoun captured his first Century win in impressive fashion with a 5-fish limit weighing 16.31 lbs. and anchored by the day’s big bass that stretched the scale to 5.25 lbs. Most of Mark’s fish came from brush piles on a Carolina rig. His partner Jim Hammond continued his roll with 7.51 lbs, good enough for 4th place, and together Mark and Jim captured heavy boat honors with 23.82 lbs. and brought Mark’s winnings up to $502.50. Way to go Mark!

My partner Jon Harshbarger put me on some shallow grass fish which produced 4 fish at 10.72 lbs. – enough for 2nd place. I caught my first fish on a Lunker Lure buzzbait and the rest on a white Mark Pack Lake Fork Tackle Magic Shad. I was casting it out and letting it sink next to patches of grass to get my bites. I want to thank Mike Adam for roaring up in his big bad Bullet and waking us up under the Highway 198 bridge. I was good to get back to fishing.

Mike Mashburn also caught his fish from shallow shoreline grass and brought 4 fish to the scales at 9.02 lbs. for a 3rd place finish. Danny Yates continued his hot fishing with 4 fish at 7.51 lbs. and a 5th place finish.

We’re now using drops in the point standings and I can’t remember when it has been so tight with so many people in contention for the Top Six. Jim Hammond is in the lead with 385 points. Robert Hargrove, Danny Yates and Paul Zukosky are all tied for with 380 points. Coy Frazier is right on their heels with 378, Randy Kvapil and John Pierce are close behind with 369 and Wally Hughey has 362 points. What a race this is going to be!

Congratulations to long time Century member John Tanner who recently competed in the Ever Start Central Division Championship on Lake Ferguson in Greenville, Mississippi. We’re proud of you John.

Our next tournament will be a two-day event at Sam Rayburn on July 21st and 22nd. Don’t miss this one. We’ll be staying at Lakeview 936-897-2187. We are also going to try and coordinate a cookout after Saturday’s fishing – so keep that in mind. See you all at Big Sam.

A bit of sad news – I just found out that Bill Kessler’s mother passed away recently. Our thoughts are prayers are with you and your family Bill. Bill’s address is 1445 Nash St., Garland, TX  75042.
