Terry Hawkins Grabs 1st Place With The Days Only Limit

General Conditions: 50-70 degrees; cloudy and rain all day with heavy thunderstorms late in the day.
Water temperatures: Mid 50s with stained to muddy conditions.
Best techniques
: Spinnerbaits shallow and pitching/flipping reeds near the discharge.

Fishing was, to say the least, generally tough. The full moon period pulled in a few fish, but the combination of a lot of rain this spring, all the gates open at the dam and the water hovering in the mid 50s has stalled any major spawning movements so far.

Everyone seems to be echoing the same sentiments, If only the weather would stabilize and warm up a bit, the fishing should bust wide open. But then, after the past couple of years, to much rain is probably better than not enough.

Former Century member Terry Hawkins joined us for this tournament and showed off his angling prowess by bringing  in the only 5 five fish limit of the tournament. His 13.12 lb. bag also included the days big bass at 4.74 lbs.  Terry teamed up with his non-boater Jason Boehme with 2 fish at 5.96 lbs. to claim combo honors with a combined weight of 19.08 lbs. Even if he did take most of our money, its still great to have Terry fishing with us again.

Hameed Ghaffar had a good tournament with 4 fish at 10.03 lbs. to capture 2nd place. I was fishing the same creek as Hameed and brother Danny and came in with 3 fish at 8.91 lbs to capture 3rd place. Two of my fish came on a spinnerbait, which is mainly what Hameed and Danny were throwing, and the other on a Carolina rigged lizard.  I have been have most of my success this spring on a Stanley Titanium Wedge Spinnerbait.

4th through 6th places went to Paul Zukosky with 3 fish at 7.93 lbs., Coy Frazier our early leader in the Angler of the Year race 3 fish at 7.21 lbs. and Robert Hargrove also with 3 fish weighing in at 6.62 lbs.

I will be heading out, with the rest of our Top Six team, to Lake Amistad this weekend to compete in the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation Top Six State Team Tournament March 18th-23rd.  This years team consisting of myself, Randy Kvapil, Robert Hargrove, Elvin Smith, Chuck Middleton and Paul Zukosky will be doing our best to bring home another state title for the Century Bass Club.

Thanks for all the support from all our members.
