Jon Harshbarger Wins Bob Sandlin
Jon Harshbarger ran his new Ranger through the stiff winds, which were blowing around 15 to 25 mph, to capture this Century tournament. Jon's five fish limit, the only limit caught, weighed 8.29 pounds. Jon used a variety of lures and techniques to win this event.
Second place went to Coy Frazier who weighed in three fish at 6.20 pounds. Two of Coy's fish were caught with just minutes to spare to pull out this second place finish.
Third place went to Bobby Cole who only brought in two fish at 5.95 pounds, but one of the fish went for 4.58 pounds and captured the day's big bass honor. The fish went for Bobby's black frog early in the morning.
Fourth place went to Mike Adam whose two fish at 4.45 pounds beat out Danny Yates two fish that went for 4.44 pounds. My two fish at 4.13 pounds took 6th place.
Danny and I fished an Enterprise Leasing Tournament on Saturday during quite different conditions - calm and hot. We managed to pull four fish to the weigh-in that weighed 9.40 pounds for 6th place out of approximately 80 boats. Our weight included a 4.95 pound kicker that won 2nd big bass honors. Our fish were caught on Lake Fork Tackle Magic Shads and Lake Fork Tackle watermelon Top Dog Lizards fished in a creek channel brush pile in about 10 feet of water. When I hooked our big fish I started looking for help from younger brother Danny, while struggling with the fish to get it out and away from the brush pile. A noise behind me diverted my attention and I turned around just in time to see Danny swinging a keeper onboard and then he reached down and lipped my fish. As tough as fishing was we manage half our keepers and the majority of our weight on the same cast.
Congratulations to our 2003 Officers: Duane Climer, President; Philip Webb, Vice President & Tournament Director; Mark Calhoun, Secretary; and once again Paul Zukosky, Treasurer.
The Top Six Team for State Tournament next spring include: Robert Hargrove, Paul Zukosky, Tommy Yates, Wally Hughey, Randy Kvapil and Duane Climer.
I would like to thank you all for the help and support this year during some
tough times with my Mother's passing. Acquaintances that start in a small
fishing club, but build to become cherished friendships - those
friendships are what makes this club so special.
