Middleton Wins Hubbard
Past
Century President, Chuck Middleton, brought in one of only 2 limits at the
October 12 tournament held on Lake Ray Hubbard and squeaked out a nice win with
9.98 lbs. Chuck saved time and fuel
by fishing within site of the weigh-in using 5 different baits in a very tough
tournament. Chuck’s weapons
included a topwater, whacky worm, crank bait, fluke, and a Carolina rig—all in
less than 12 feet of water along the marina break-water for the $255 first place
prize.
Second place and Angler
of the Year went to Robert Hargrove with 4 fish weighing 9.93 lbs.
Robert’s fish came on his trusty chicken rig in less than 10 feet of
water. Robert also had the big bass
of the tournament at 4.24 lbs. for a combined payday of $258.
Robert ended up as Century’s 2003 Angler of the Year as well as the
B.A.S.S. Northeast Region Angler of the Year.
Nick Carroccio had the
only other 5-fish limit at Hubbard for 7.79 lbs. and was rewarded to the tune of
$96. Nick also split the heavy boat
pot with 4th place finisher and partner for the day—Tommy Yates,
which added another $50 to his winnings. Tommy captured the last check with 2 fish for 6.44 lbs. and
$58 along with $50 for his half of the heavy boat pot.
There were 38 fish
brought in for a total of 82.06 lbs. for a 2.16 lb. average.
